ELA: Students will need to pick a Newbery Honor or Award winning book to read at home and answer a few questions about their selection tonight. We expect students read this book by March 1st. More information about our Newbery project will be given as we get closer to March.

Math: HW#4; This is review of subtracting fractions from unit 2. We began to explore the concepts behind multiplication of fractions today with a hands-on paper activity. More to come this week!

We wish you all a fabulous Super Bowl Weekend! Some of the students have learned our first dance for the 5th grade performance, which is football themed. It makes for a great half-time show! If your child elected to participate in the cast, ask them to share it.

Math Extra Credit HW: For 5 HW points, write each team's scores as a fraction, percent, and decimal. You will need to figure out what the whole is. Write it on a separate sheet of paper, label it clearly, and show your work. No credit will be given if there are just answers on your paper.

ELA: Keep reading!

Math: HW#3; Review of adding fractions; use the notes given to you as a guide

Social Studies & Writing: Keep working on getting those body paragraphs finished. Your report is due February 11. This upcoming week, we will focus on introduction & concluding paragraphs in class and writing the final draft. We are almost there!!!!

PE: Continue to prepare for the Jog-a-thon. The more you run, the more money we raise! Also, your fitness logs should be filled out DAILY!

*If you return to school after being out sick, it is your responsibility to check in with each teacher to get the work you missed, schedule make-up assessments, etc. Each of us has 69 students and it is harder for us to keep track of who needs what from each day, especially since so many of you have been absent. YOU know if you have been out and when, so simply ask us and we are happy to help you catch up!
We hope to have a 100% healthy 5th grade soon!

Science Quiz Friday

Hi all,
I am out at a training the rest of the week. Nonetheless, there will be a science quiz Friday on space and gravity. HW #2, which will be given today (Wednesday) is a review for the quiz. Students should be sure to ask Whitney if they have any questions before the quiz. She is an amazing resource and we are lucky to have her! I hope everyone enjoyed going to IP yesterday.

We're starting our new unit about Space and Weather. I'm encouraging students to bring in any recent news articles or information they find about space or weather.

ELA: We continue to work on editing skills. Today's writing lesson was on subject/verb agreement and consistency with tenses. Tonight's homework requires students to edit two letters between foreign exchange students.
Due: Thursday

Math: HW#13; Students were given copies of notes and equivalency charts to translate fractions, decimals, and percents. Our class work modeled how to use these tools. Students will practice using them for homework and reflect on real life situations using fractions, decimals, and percents. Friday's lesson will clarify students' questions and provide additional practice.
Due: Friday

Social Studies: As we begin to write our reports during writing workshop, it is important for students to fill out the graphic organizers provided in social studies and to have the content ready for writing. Lorena will be checking each of these for accuracy of information and the homeroom teacher will guiding students through the writing process to write the reports. Your homework is to research and document the details on these graphic organizers in addition to what is finished in class.
