Important News...

Hello Fabulous Fifth Graders and Families,

This weekend is our annual World Fair. We hope that you will join us for a Saturday filled with great food, games, and entertainment. Let's celebrate the rich cultural experiences that make us each truly unique.

Our holiday performance is next Friday morning. Our fifth graders put in some extra rehearsal time yesterday and sound amazing. Don't miss the show of the year! We expect more families that morning, so be sure to get here on time to grab your seat. It is important that parents and quests model attentive listening and respect during each performance. Every class has put in a great deal of time and effort to make this an enjoyable experience for all. Conversations during performances can be distracting for the musicians, singers, and students in the audience. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you are looking for a volunteer experience during the holiday season, One Voice is an organization that packs food for families in need. They could use adults AND children to help sort and package food next Thursday, December 16th at the Santa Monica Hangar. We shared this opportunity with students yesterday during civics class as a way to encourage community service. If you are interested, you can have your student grab a Sign-In form from me (Sandra) which will help you avoid the long line. The time frame that is "KID SAFE" is from 7:30pm-9:00pm, but they go until 11:00pm. I plan on going and it would be nice to see some familiar LCS faces!

Math Matters is a free math contest for 4th and 5th graders on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00am. If you are interested, visit their website to register. Students can choose a parent/teacher as a coach and even use past years' sample questions to prepare. Please let me know if you are interested, as I would like to attend to cheer and support any LCS mathematicians!

Thu Nov 4

Thanks to all the parents for getting their child to school on time. We had a great time on the field trip yesterday learning about a new culture from Bali, touring the campus, and making it back safely. The students were extremely respectful and followed all directions. We were impressed and proud of all of them.

ELA: Performance Review
UCLA has asked the students to write a review of the performance. They have kindly given some guiding questions to think about. Please be sure the writing is organized into paragraphs, legible, and edited/revised. Students are welcome to type up their review as well.

Conference sign up sheets are in the main office. Please be sure to stop by or call the main office to schedule your parent, student, teacher conference. Your child is expected to attend the conference.

Friday HW

Hi all,
The kids have science and math HW this week. A note about science - we read the pages in class today EXCEPT for the section on supersaturation. They should do their best on this part. We will go over it Monday in greater depth. Some of the words are cut off on the copy, but you can infer them (especially since they've read it already). Thanks!
Have a good weekend!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Hi there,
Thanks to everyone that came to Back-to-School Night. It was great to have all of your support. Again, sorry that we're not as consistent with posting the HW here. Once we get internet in the cottage, it will become much better!
Anyway, tonight's HW was just the writing HW about writing a dialogue about a missing homework assignment.
